Suralco granted permission to BWWI nv in februari 2002 to pilot the idea of harvesting the trees out of the lake. Permission from the government was granted in October 2003.

| BWWI is a wood logging company that operates in Suriname in the district Brokopondo, but unlike every other traditional wood logging companies in Suriname, BWWI harvests her trees under water.
BWWI has received the exclusive rights from Suralco L.L.C. to harvest trees from the van Blommenstein Lake in Brokopondo; other companies that would like to harvest the trees in the future would first require permission from both Suralco L.L.C. and BWWI n.v. |
